ECO CRUISING FU_TOUR WORKSHOP IN GENOA: December 11th, 2023

The recent workshop held in Genoa marked a pivotal moment for the ECO CRUISING FU_TOUR project, serving as a platform for local stakeholders, including institutions and SMEs, to come together and explore avenues for sustainable tourism in the region. With approximately 30 participants in attendance, the event was a valuable opportunity for knowledge sharing and collaboration.

The workshop commenced with an institutional presentation highlighting notable local projects focused on sustainable tourism in cruise destinations like Genoa. Topics ranged from local mobility initiatives to cultural and culinary experiences, showcasing the city's unique blend of heritage and innovation. This set the stage for a comprehensive overview of the project's activities and objectives.

Subsequent sessions delved into the experiences of SMEs in various tourism-related sectors, including tour guides, sustainable mobility providers, tour operators, sports activities organizers, and purveyors of culinary and cultural experiences. These discussions aimed to foster closer ties between local tourism SMEs and other stakeholders, facilitating a deeper understanding of the needs and preferences of cruising tourists.

Key takeaways from the workshop include the importance of catering to smaller groups and individual travelers to enhance their experience of local offerings, such as artisanal food shops, cultural landmarks, and natural attractions. The emphasis on authenticity and social sustainability resonated strongly, underlining the significance of connecting tourists with local residents and fostering mutually beneficial relationships.

Furthermore, the workshop highlighted the broad appeal of eco-smart cruising tourism and eco-smart land experiences across age groups and socio-economic backgrounds. This underscores the potential for sustainable tourism initiatives to attract a diverse range of visitors while preserving the unique character of destinations like Genoa.

In summary, the Genoa workshop served as a catalyst for collaboration, innovation, and knowledge exchange, laying the groundwork for the continued development of sustainable tourism in the region and beyond.
